Orthodontics is the dental discipline that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of crooked teeth and improper bites. Dr. Gary Sanner, DDS is an orthodontic specialist. This means that on top of finishing college and four years of dental school, he has additionally completed a very extensive residency program accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA) of advanced education in orthodontics.
It is important to note that while many general dentists advertise orthodontics as a service, only a dentist who has completed the additional years of training and education after dental school is an orthodontist by ADA standards. In Dr. Sanner's case, after graduating from dental school with a DDS degree from Creighton University in 1980, he earned his graduate degree in orthodontics in 1982 from the prestigious School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California.
By receiving these additional years of orthodontic training at the USC School of Dentistry, Dr. Sanner learned and developed the skills needed to successfully treat abnormal facial development and the misalignment of teeth. He is also able to provide early orthodontic check-ups and treatment to prevent or 'intercept' the development of serious problems in young children. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends all children get an orthodontic check-up no later than age seven.
After nearly 30 years of experience Dr. Sanner is recognized by his colleagues as one of the area's leading orthodontists. He is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists, the California Society of Orthodontists and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.
Over the decades, Dr. Sanner has provided advanced orthodontic care to thousands of area residents. In addition to children and teenagers, this includes an increasing number of adult patients who desire a straight, beautiful smile for business or personal reasons. And he offers several state-of-the-art options to orthodontic treatment including with metal, clear braces, clear aligners, retainers and other advanced methods depending upon the needs of his patients.
As a member of the Crown Dental team of multidisciplinary dental specialists Dr. Sanner collaborates with his colleagues as needed to make sure you get the dental care that is precisely right for you. This includes a feather-soft touch and a compassionate, concerned attitude. His goal is not only to give you a beautiful smile, but to also to ensure that you have a healthy bite that will reduce excessive tooth wear over the years.
